Master’s Message – December 2023
Brethren,
As the year comes to a close, this is an opportunity to reflect on the last 12 months. Our lodge has certainly had some highs and lows. We had a successful consolidation with Sunnyside Lodge #163 but a few months later we suffered a major loss with the untimely passing of our Worshipful Master, John Quiroz. As we head into the holiday season, let’s keep the Quiroz family in our prayers.
The best way we can honor John is to finish what we wanted to accomplish in his year; primarily by earning the Grand Master’s Achievement Award. I’m glad to say that we are nearing that accomplishment and I’m very hopeful we’ll see it through. Another way we can honor John is by continuing to come to Lodge. December is a very busy month for us all, but I hope you can all make it to our events and enjoy the fellowship on offer.
Our first event in December is the George Washington Masonic Center Christmas Party. This is held at the Lodge on Sunday, December 3rd at 2:00 pm. We’ll have music provided by R.W.B. Gary Ball on the piano, presents for the kids and plenty of food and drink. I believe that Santa is even making time in his busy schedule to make a visit! Everybody is invited.
We will have The Sunnyside Brunch on Saturday, December 9th at 10:00 am, which is always a great time to socialize and enjoy good food.
This is quickly followed by Washington Lodge’s Stated Communication on Wednesday, December 13th. Dinner is at 6:30 pm and the meeting starts at 7:30 pm. As is our Christmas tradition, the Dickens Carolers will be coming so we will invite everyone in at the appropriate time to enjoy their music. Ladies and guests are invited for this Christmas treat.
Lastly, for this month, your 2024 officers will be installed on Sunday, December 17th at 2:00pm. There will be refreshments provided afterwards. This will be an open installation, so everyone is invited. Your installing team will be: Installing Officer; W.B. Larry Harmon, Installing Marshall; W.B. Jim Akers and Installing Chaplain: W.B. Jim Van Anda.
I hope to see you all at as many events as you can and may you have a happy and safe holiday season!
Sincerely and Fraternally,
Bro. Matthew Cox
Worshipful Master Elect Washington #46
