From the East – June 2018
I had a very nice visit with Franklin High School counselor, Hoang Tran, a couple of weeks ago. The school is very appreciative of our support of their activities. (If you attended our May stated meeting, Don read a nice thank you from them.) I met this year’s recipient for the Washington Lodge Scholarship Award. A very nice young woman who will be attending the University of Oregon, both of my daughters’ alma mater. Because of our summer change in meeting parameters, it seems most appropriate that we wait to meet and fete her and her family at our September stated communication, where we will have a full dinner.
I asked if the school music department might we willing to provide Christmas carols at our annual Christmas Party. They were thrilled, and this will add immeasurably to the festivities. In addition, I will ask Don to reach out to include Sunnyside and Cornerstone members and families in the party. Last year’s festivities were fantastic, and we had a wonderful turnout! It is never too early to put this special event on your calendar!
And don’t forget our annual joint Masonic Picnic at Oaks Park. It will be held the last Saturday in July, the 28th. Again, be sure to note this on your calendar and prep the kids! It’s always a great way to spend an afternoon!
Because I’m having a great deal of fun, I would like to report that my database of the lodges’ (plural) membership roster has now reached 2700 members. The oldest so far was born in 1842. Many of the cards were woefully incomplete, hence many blank spots in the information. If you have any information on past members or their family members, please email it to my address: [email protected] or “snail mail” 19402 NE Irving Ct., Portland, Oregon 97230.
This year has arrived at the midway point! I would like to thank all of you for your support thus far! I will be attending Grand Lodge Thursday and Friday this week, so I will be able to report back to you on all the exciting information from there at our stated meeting on June 13th. Remember, we will be serving light snacks before the meeting and Lodge will commence at 7:00 PM instead of 7:30 PM.
On July 11th, which is the second Wednesday in the month, I will be having my left knee repaired, total replacement. Obviously, I won’t make it to the Stated, so it will be necessary for everyone to “step-up” that night. You are all doing exceedingly well in your present positions and this will be an excellent time to get ready for next year. Dennis, this “Big Time” opportunity is on your capable shoulders. Additionally, we have the prospect of, at least, two new members; one of which has petition in-hand, hopefully, to be read in July.
This Wednesday night will be fun. Our “Big Folks” will be hob-nobbing with the really important people at a Grand Lodge gala soiree. So, we mere peasants can operate unimpeded.
