From the West – August 2017

Greetings from the West!

This month’s Safety Plug! Number 1:

We’ve all heard that the temperatures this week are to be around the century mark, so please drink lots of water and stay out of the sun as much as
possible.

Number 2:

It’s never too late to plan ahead, so if you haven’t done these things already, do some preventative maintenance around the house:

  1. Have your furnace inspected. Filters must be changed at least once a year.
  2. Air ducts should be cleaned, dirty ducts (be careful how you say that!) raise havoc with the efficient delivery of cozy warmth during those frosty days to
    come.
  3. The space around your furnace and water heater (if it is gas) is not for the storage of flammable or combustible material.
  4. Take a look at electrical cords and plug-ins throughout your home (including behind furniture) for frayed cords, loose fittings, bad connections and overloaded outlets. (And as above, don’t pile flammable material around these sources as well.)

My daughter, two of her children and I attended the annual Lodge Picnic at Oaks Park, sponsored by Cornerstone, Sunnyside, and Washington Lodges. It was truly a grand occasion! The kids had a great time and the “vittles” were fantastic! I came out to help but was mostly relegated to watching my “brothers” make the magic happen – they made the event a success! Kudos to all!

Put the Lodge on your calendar. Stated meetings are the second Wednesday of every month and as usual there will be a dinner before the lodge convenes. The “donations” for dinner have been adjusted to offset the spiraling costs. Hopefully, $10 won’t break the bank.

Respectfully,

Dave Munson, Senior Warden (pro-tem)
