Chaplain’s Corner – June 2019
Grand Lodge is upon us, as well as the 150th anniversary of Washington Lodge #46 on June 22nd. We know that when Grand Lodge opens on June 6th, our Worshipful Master and Wardens will vote in the best interests of the lodge.
Our newly elected and appointed leaders at Grand Lodge must lead by example and do what is right for the greater good rather than what is most expeditious. Most times the easy path has become too often the used path. We all know better. We must trust our instincts, fall back on our teachings, and move forward with the best intentions of our organization.
Please, my Brothers, as delegates, set aside any personal pettiness, or ego, and do what’s right for the Fraternity. Generations before us made similar decisions. To quote a favorite Star Trek character, “The good of the many does outweigh the good of the one.”
As I traveled to the lodges in Oregon and now as I look around our Lodge Room, I feel inspired by the great leaders that this lodge has been blessed with. Whether this is your first Masonic year, or your fiftieth, our former lodge leaders were all unique and special and afford you time to take a moment and look around to see friends and Brothers with which you have built, or are in the process of building lifelong friendships. While we often take this for granted, please consider this: without the selfless influence of Freemasonry most of you would never have had the opportunity to meet, much less, become friends and Brothers with these fine men. Take time to appreciate those in your midst, and the leaders before you.
I hope that you read this message knowing that you and those around you are the future of Freemasonry, and Washington Lodge #46. Continue to serve. Continue to persevere. Fall back on our teachings. Remember and respect those that have gone before you and cherish those whom you surround yourself with.
Each member reading this has a special relationship with Washington Lodge #46; a very close one in some cases, in others on a more intermittent basis. We want to say thank you as you celebrate 150 years with us. Every member has contributed to the fact that Washington Lodge #46 has been successful for 150 years.
WB Roland Lakey is in hospice now. Please remember him in your prayers.
During June, July, and August, we will be meeting at 7 pm, and our Officers will be wearing barongs. Please stay safe and enjoy your travels this summer.
