Degree Coin
I received an inquiry from a gentleman in Arizona about a coin he found in a collection that he purchased from someone in Mesa, Arizona. He was selling it for an elderly neighbor.
Come to find out the neighbor’s father owned a coin shop in the 80’s somewhere in Washington
State. When he retired, all the shop’s possessions went to the kids who never looked at them until a few years ago in Phoenix.
Turns out, there was this degree coin in the collection. The coin was given to Robert R. McCauley. Robert was a member of Washington Lodge and passed away February 9th, 2014 at the age of 98 years.
It must have been a custom, back in the 20’s to present a commemorative coin to a member after
he received his degrees. You never know where our lodge history will be found.
