Western Star Lodge Building

From The Secretary’s Desk – July 2022

Peaceful, serene, only the sound of the wind blowing through the 60-to-100-foot Douglas Fir, Black Oak and Ponderosa Pines. That was the feeling at 4000 feet during our recent stay in California. This was at our daughter’s property near Shingletown some 25 miles east of Redding. Our trip started out in Morgan Hill, south of San Jose as we attended our grandson’s graduation from high school. Great family time as our daughter and other grandson came down from Shingletown for the festivities. We returned to Shingletown a few days later and spent nearly three weeks enjoying the sunshine which we missed in Oregon. Sunshine every day, as rain fell in the great NW. A super place to relax, with nary a car sound or a dog barking in the distance.

Western Star Lodge plaqueWe had the opportunity to travel around the area and viewed the area where in 2018, the Carr Fire at Whiskeytown, burned thousands of acres. The area has and is being restored.

We had a pleasant surprise as we visited Shasta City, where the oldest Masonic Lodge in California is located. Chartered in 1854 and still being used to this day. A remarkable old building.

So, we look forward again to the many activities in store for our members. More casual meetings and to picnics and events that are planned for the summer and fall just to name a couple. We sure would like to have all of you participate with us.

Don’t forget that we have our stated meetings on the second Wednesday at 7PM. Have a great summer. Stay healthy & safe.

Respectively submitted,

Don Stapleton, Secretary
