The Front Page – March 2020

As I was watching the last few democratic debates over the past week or so; I couldn’t help but think how contentious they have become. The bickering and insults; the interrupting and talking over each other. Toddlers seemed to have more respect for their peers than these fully-grown men and women. And these are politicians from the same party!

Before turning off the TV, my thoughts turned to our own fraternity and wondered how it has survived through all these centuries. While the world saw rebellions and revolutions, civil and world wars and all kinds of events happening around the globe over the years, Freemasonry has stood strong. I’m sure there are many reasons that we are still around, but for me, I think we need to remember how the trowel is used in speculative masonry. We stay sturdy as we spread the cement of affection and kindness which unites and binds all members of the Masonic family.

Indeed, our ties are made stronger by what unites us rather than what separates us. We do not look to exclude those who are different from us but instead look to include all good men and make them even better than they already are. As we lead our daily lives, let us find what commonalities we have within masons and non-masons alike and build on those strengths.
