Master's Message

Brethren,

It's Valentine's season! This coming Sunnyside Brunch on February 8th, we have something special for all our spouses, partners, and widows. We will have different foods served instead of our usual brunch selection. For those who can't make it, we're also going to have something special for our dinner on February 12th, prior to our Regular Stated Meeting (RSM). Our love towards our partners doesn’t just need to be shown this month but also every single month of the year. I’m grateful for the love and support of our partners. Happy Valentine's!

Several of the Organization representatives weren't able to make it to the Building Board meeting this past January 22nd. It is important that these group leaders or representatives meet with us. Our Building Board Manager will be returning soon from his volunteer work in Southern California, so we are going to have another Building Board meeting on February 26th from 6:00 pm to 6:30 pm at Washington Masonic Center. I ask the leaders or representatives of the groups mentioned below to please attend:

In the coming months, we are going to start working on completing the requirements of the Grand Master's Achievement Award. I laid out the updated requirements this past Officers meeting. I look forward to working with you all! We will have very interesting visitations to other lodges this year, where we will get to see two different types of opening and closing rituals - compared to what we do here in Oregon. We will visit a Washington State lodge located in Vancouver and also a Prince Hall lodge located here in Portland. I'm excited to travel with you all!

Brethren,

As February rolls around, we undoubtedly shift our focus toward love and affection, thanks to the celebration of Valentine’s Day. While the holiday is often associated with romantic love, I find it a fitting time to reflect on a love that lies at the heart of our fraternity—Brotherly Love.

This virtue, which unites us as Masons, calls us to genuinely care for one another, to support one another, and to uphold the bonds of friendship and fraternity that make our Lodge more than just a group of men—it makes us a family.

Brotherly Love is not just a sentiment; it is a practice. It’s found in the quiet moments when we offer a kind word to a Brother in need, extend our hands to assist, or simply share in each other’s joys and burdens. Like the love celebrated on Valentine’s Day, Brotherly Love is a reminder that relationships flourish when nurtured with care, attention, and genuine kindness.

This February, I encourage you to reach out to a Brother you haven’t spoken to in a while. Check in, share a meal, or simply let him know he is thought of and valued. Let’s ensure that no Brother feels forgotten or alone. For in the strength of our bonds lies the true strength of our Lodge.

As we honor this season of love, let us also honor the tenets of our fraternity. Let Brotherly Love reign in our hearts, not just this month, but throughout the year.

From The South

February is the month of love and showing that most significant loved one your heart and making them feel special. Washington Lodge has two events to aid your efforts. The first is on Saturday, February 8th, at 10:00 am. We will have some extra treats added to our fantastic brunch. The second is a special Valentine's dinner prior to the stated meeting on February 12th. We will have a scrumptious meal to honor the event and follow that up with a bit of swag for your favorite date. If you can’t make both meals, make it to the one you can.

The Worshipful Master has shared his goals and agenda for this Masonic year, which includes challenges and fun to keep us busy. The agenda includes visiting area Lodges and increasing our Masonic education and knowledge. When time permits, look for short and medium lectures and lessons at our monthly stated meetings. If you have a special topic you can bring to our meeting, we encourage you to do so. Let me know what you have so we may work you into the schedule.

Once again I encourage you to come back to Lodge if we haven’t seen you in a while. Our Lodge is vibrant, and our ritual is sharp. If you need help or transportation we can help with that. Give me a call.

From The Secretary's Desk

I think most of us think of February as the month to celebrate our sweethearts. Yes, this is true, and we will have a lovely dinner for them and entertainment at our February stated meeting. So, I encourage you to bring your better half and enjoy some extra special time with us. Dinner begins at 6:30 PM and our stated meeting at 7:30 PM. Gentleman, please read the trestleboard and inform your ladies of this special event.

Our Worshipful Master has a full agenda for the evening and has laid out aggressive plans for the remainder of his term. A lodge and building board budget will be discussed and voted on, at least one petition will be received and plans to maintain our GMAA status will be discussed. Brethren, we have a fine line of officers with all position's filled. This is a rarity in lodges these days and all of you should be very proud of how Washington Lodge continues to grow and support the many masonic and community events.

It is my sad duty to inform the membership that brother Harry Nelson (BUD) James has passed to the celestial lodge above. Bud passed away on December 1st, 2024, at the age of 84. Many of you knew Bud as a Past Potentate of Al Kadar Shrine and a member of many other masonic groups. He was a cymbal player in the Oriental Band at the Shrine and we both sat side by side as we practiced together. He received his degrees in Sunnyside Lodge #163, being raised a master mason in January of 1987. His service will be held at Al Kadar Shrine in Wilsonville on Tuesday, February 11th at 2 PM.
