Master's Message

Installation Address of Worshipful Master Jesse McCann
Presented on December 6th, 2025

Brethren, family, and friends — good afternoon.

It is an honor to stand here today. I am humbled by the trust you have placed in me, and I am inspired by the brothers — past and present — who have carried this Lodge through generations of change and challenge. To our Past Masters, thank you for your stewardship. To our officers, thank you for stepping forward to serve. And to my family — whose patience, encouragement, and love make my service possible — thank you.

Washington Lodge has always been a place where fellowship lives — in our Sunnyside Brunches, in the warmth of our dinners, in the laughter shared before and after meetings, and in the quiet acts of care extended when a brother is in need. We have a proud history of showing up for one another — and that is the ground on which we will build.

Each year, the Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Oregon sets a theme to focus the Craft. That idea — that we chart a direction together — inspired me to choose a theme for our own Lodge’s work this year: Advancing Fellowship.

Not because fellowship is missing — but because it is worth strengthening.
Not because we lack connection — but because connection is what sustains us.

Advancing Fellowship means being intentional about the experiences we create together — the ones that turn good men into friends, and friends into brothers. It is about taking what already works, trying new ideas — and giving all of it every opportunity to flourish.

Masonry is a volunteer labor — and a meaningful one. I reflected on this in our most recent newsletter: everything that happens here occurs because brothers give of themselves.

When that work is shared widely, the Lodge feels alive and welcoming. When it rests on too few, even small tasks can become heavy. Not out of neglect — but because we are all living full, demanding lives.

Advancing Fellowship means inviting more hands into the work — in ways that feel joyful, manageable, and worthwhile. Whether that means helping on a committee, mentoring a new Mason, lending a skill, or simply being present… every contribution builds this Lodge.

When involvement becomes participation — and participation becomes belonging — the entire Lodge grows stronger.

Our Purpose This Year

This year, my goal is to expand opportunities to spend time together — socially, charitably, and in the work of the Craft.

We will build on what has already been started:
better communication, renewed outreach, and thoughtful programs designed to help every brother feel welcomed and valued.

My hope is that we create an unstoppable momentum — continuity with intention.

The Spirit of the Work

Freemasonry teaches us that improvement is not an event — it is a process.
We, as speculative Masons, shape our Lodge the same way operative masons shapes stone: patiently, faithfully, and together.

If, by the end of this year, our fellowship feels a little stronger, our involvement a little broader, and our connections a little deeper — then we will have accomplished something truly worthwhile.

Brethren, I am honored to serve you.
But I am even more honored to serve with you.

Let us honor what has been built — and add to it with renewed energy and purpose. Let us make this a year where fellowship isn’t just our theme — it becomes the cornerstone of our culture.

A year where the work we share becomes the bond we strengthen. A year where Washington Lodge No. 46 feels like a second home to all our brothers… because we have built it together.

Thank you, brethren.
May the Great Architect guide every step we take — as one.

From The West

Happy New Year Greetings from the West,

The New Year is upon us, and we look for fresh starts and new beginnings for our business, health regimes and motivations. Many people wait for the year end to broach new habits or disciplines. That mindset creates lots of pressure that is often hard to manage and creates “let downs” when our efforts fail. Higher success rates can be achieved with repetition, consistency and stair step goals. Cheers to your best success this year.

Last year WB Enriquez led our Lodge to high goals of Grand master’s achievement and education awards. Our Lodge travelled to many Lodges around the metro area with a successful effort to bring fellowship for all Brothers involved. A big “thank you” goes out to WB Aaron Enriquez, his line of officers and all those who participated in a great 2025 Masonic year at Washington 46.

This year our Lodge has a new beginning with a new slate of officers and new goals for the year. Our Worshipful Master, Jesse McCann is leading a campaign to bring our craft together through frequent interaction, clarity of tasks, responsibility and accounting. Washington 46, like so many other Lodges, leans on a few Brothers who perform a lion’s share of the work, but our new WM Jesse sees the value in spreading the work so more Brothers are involved, and no individual is overworked. Cheers to WM Jesse and Washington 46 for a successful 2026.

Harmoniously yours,
Jim Munson

Welcoming Visitors

Hospitality is one of the simplest—and most meaningful—courtesies we can offer our visiting Brethren, regardless of rank. Each of us shares in the responsibility of extending a warm welcome to every visitor as soon as he enters our Lodge.

Sometimes it begins with nothing more than a handshake and a few friendly questions:

Have you visited us before? Where are you from? Have you come far? Do you have friends in this Lodge? Are you visiting for a special reason tonight? Please, tell me more about your Lodge.

Often, a small offer of help goes just as far:

May I show you the Candidate’s Room? Would you like a tour of the Lodge? Can I offer you a drink or refreshments? Let me introduce you to our Worshipful Master.

What you choose to say will always be your own, but we should never feel uncertain about how to begin. A sincere welcome is one of the finest ways we practice our Craft—and it leaves a lasting impression long after the evening has ended.

SAVE THE DATE!

A YEAR OF REFLECTION AND A FUTURE THAT LOOKS BRIGHT

The comments that I have received from many of you about 2025 can be summed up as, "where has the time gone?"

Our current Past Master Aaron, stepped into his role as worshipful master on December 27th
, 2024, and now 12 months later, it is Jesse McCann’s turn to take the reins and run with it. We have accomplished a lot over these last few months, and I want to personally thank the officers for their continued participation and support. From visitations to open houses, to the many traveling gavels received, to the Annual Christmas brunch with Lents Lodge and two special visits from Grand Masters, what a year it has been. We initiated an EA and continue to have a number of inquiries from Grand Lodge. It's going to be a busy year, and we want YOU to meet and participate with us. There will be committees that you can help with, the stewards will need some extra help, and our ritual teams will need your assistance.

So, what are you waiting for?

If you need transportation we can help; if you need some support because you haven’t attended lodge for a while, we can help; you can call me or any of the other lodge officers for answers to questions you may have, and we will do our very best to answer them or get the information you need.

Finally, 2026 is going to be a fabulous masonic year and your officers are anxious to provide our members and guests with an exciting Masonic experience. Our January Saturday Brunch is the 10th at 10AM, with a very special presentation, and our stated meeting is on the 14th. Dinner at 6:30PM with our meeting starting at 7:30PM. Please make the second Wednesday and the second Saturday of the month part of your usual routine. We look forward to a very healthy and prosperous 2026.

Respectively submitted,

Don Stapleton, PGM, Secretary
