Longevity
This month my message is about Longevity. I have been sending out birthday cards to our members for over a year now. It gives me great pleasure in recognizing those that will celebrate their special day but what strikes me the most is the age of our members and the experiences they have encountered. This month, for example, Robert Bergner will be 89, Cecil Johnson 96, Gerald Risberg 90 and Bob Richardson is a young 87. It is true that our membership is older but what stories they must have about the golden age of lodge business when our membership was over a 1000 members and members traveled by train and horse back to meetings. Our lodge is 151 years old. We would like our membership to jot down some of your experiences from the old days. Keeping our history alive for the new generation is something the older generation must perpetuate.
A very BIG surprise recently came to WB Larry Harmon, Dave Munson & Don Stapleton. Larry had been cleaning out old files, and low-in-behold, stuck between two file folders, in our fireproof file cabinet, Larry discovered something rolled up. It was delicate, and it just happened to be our ORGINAL CHARTER. We have looked high and low for many years for its existence. We finally have found it and it is in good shape. So, a bit of history came to life and Washington Lodge will again be able to display our original charter.
Everyone, please stay safe and healthy. We all look forward to when we will meet again.
Fraternally,
Don Stapleton, Secretary
