Labor Day

The Celebration

May is a month of celebration, so many in fact, that few months have the significance of boasting that here we celebrate the labor movement on May 1st; to recognize the hard and dedicated work of our mothers, May 12th and the real impact of those that made the ultimate sacrifice defending the liberties of this wonderful country of ours, May 27th.

These are difficult times as we think back on all the hardships that our families have endured from the 1800’s to present time. If your father and mother were part of this early labor movement we know what they endured trying to provide for their children and grandchildren. They worked hard for little pay. Many businesses had to shut their doors but one organization stood out as a place to assemble and provide the companionship that both men and women looked to for peace and solace, and that was the Masonic Fraternity. Washington Lodge had over 1000 members and the women’s groups, Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile and many others, their membership was flourishing.

Today, these groups are still a vital part of our local communities but age and the technology world that we currently live in have moved that base, in many cases away from the principals of Brotherly Love, Relief & Truth.

I ask each and every one of you to take a moment and think about these events this month and make every effort to thank your mother for her sacrifices and maybe the family of that service man or woman that did not return to the shores in which they left.

Our celebration continues in June as we thank all those masons that kept Washington Lodge alive over these 150 Years. Look for a flyer in your mailbox this May and respond with a favorable reply. Please let our Senior Warden know if you can join us and renew those friendships from years past.

Join us at our stated meeting on the 8th. Please bring your spouse as we look forward in celebrating our mothers and the special times we have together.
