The First Six Months
I would like to start this month’s message with this quote from William Howard Taft:
“The secret of Masonry, like the secret of life, can be known only by those who seek it, live it. It cannot be uttered; it can only be felt and acted. It is, in fact, an open secret, and each man knows according to his quest and capacity. Like all things worth knowing, no one can know it for another and no man can know it alone.”
As we ponder these words from the 27th President of the United States, many of us can identify with the teachings and experiences we have learned through our masonic journey. These first six months at Washington Lodge have brought forth a variety of lessons that all of us have benefited from. We have learned patience, fortitude, prudence and yes, even justice. We have started to work as a real team, knowing that in June of next year, through all the trials and tribulations of some 150 years, this lodge will celebrate a birthday, one that many lodges will not experience. We are a very fortunate group of masons, to participate in such an event.
We have some new challenges these next few months, but your lodge officers look forward to these changes and trust they will benefit all the membership. I want to reach out to all those members that we haven’t seen for a while and invite them to one of our meetings during the summer. Don’t forget our meetings are the second Wednesday of the month and will start at 7PM during June, July & August. The monthly Trestleboard is on our WEB site every month, Washington 46.org, and I hope that you are keeping up with our activities. Dress for the summer is barongs, if you have one, or business casual—that is no ties. If you have any questions concerning the lodge please don’t hesitate to call the master, WB Dave Munson at 503-667-5077 or Don Stapleton, Secretary, 503-669-0866. We are going to have a great summer and we want you to be part of it.
Fraternally,
Don Stapleton, Secretary
